Strijp-S Anchors the Microlab Makers Community

The makers community of Microlab Eindhoven will remain rooted at Strijp-S. Microlab and Park Strijp Beheer (a joint venture of VolkerWessels and the Municipality of Eindhoven) have signed a new lease agreement for the SFH building, the location where Microlab has been home to hundreds of makers, designers and creative entrepreneurs since January 1, 2016. The agreement marks an important step toward securing a lasting future for the community at this iconic location in Eindhoven.
What began twelve years ago as a makers community at Strijp-T moved to Strijp-S ten years ago to allow the community to further develop and scale. Since then, Microlab has grown into a vibrant environment where makers meet, inspire each other and collaborate on a daily basis. Spread across approximately 12,000 m², Microlab offers space to a diverse group of creative professionals who together form an important part of the character and identity of Strijp-S.
With the new four-year lease agreement, an important phase begins in the further development of Microlab at Strijp-S. During this period, plans will be developed and implemented for renovation, sustainability improvements and future-proof accommodation, ensuring the community is ready for the next phase of entrepreneurship.
Alwin Beernink, Director of Park Strijp Beheer:
“Strijp-S has grown because of the people who dared to start here when not everything was finished yet. Microlab and its makers community have played an essential role in that. They bring energy, creativity and meaning to this place. We are proud to continue building together toward a future in which this community can keep growing here and remain part of the heart of Strijp-S.”
Luuk Visser, Managing Director of Microlab:
“It’s not about the building, but what happens inside. Microlab originally started from my own need for a place where making and entrepreneurship come together. Together with my brother Rik, we developed it into what it is today: a place where entrepreneurship as a maker becomes accessible and where we have already supported hundreds of entrepreneurs in building their businesses. I look forward to seeing what Microlab can mean in the coming years for our members, makers and entrepreneurs at Strijp-S and beyond.”
While the area surrounding the SFH building will continue to transform in the coming years, Microlab will remain a recognizable and accessible place for makers and entrepreneurs in the city. The extension of the collaboration underlines the shared confidence in the strength of the community and the importance of space for creativity in the city of tomorrow.
