The Glasgebouw at Strijp-S is getting a new purpose. The former Philips building will be transformed into a residential complex with 177 apartments and commercial spaces.
The redevelopment of this municipal monument includes the demolition of the top floor and the addition of four new residential levels with a terracotta aluminum façade. A passageway measuring twelve meters wide and six meters high will also be created, allowing the cycle path along Torenallee to pass under the building towards the Philips Stadium.
Priority for essential workers
The housing offer will range from studios and two- and three-room apartments to “friends apartments,” where two tenants share facilities. At the request of the municipality, people in essential professions—such as teachers, police officers, and healthcare staff—will be given priority in allocation.
The ground floor will be fitted with commercial units. The building will also receive new aluminum window frames with insulating glass, preserving its appearance while meeting modern standards.
The permit has been granted to Stam + De Koning Bouw. If no objections are raised, demolition will begin in November 2025, with completion expected in the spring or summer of 2027.
With this project and other developments in Phase 4, Strijp-S will add nearly 1,500 new homes in the coming years.
